Juicing

Hello!  This month has been full of changes here at the cross family!  In one day, yes one single day, we got a new car (hello Prius!), Ted got a new job (a promotion at Grand Canyon University) and we made it official we are moving....I was TIRED after that long day but excited for all the changes!

Every week Ted and I brainstorm on what can make us (mostly me) healthier, we talk about diet, exercise, symptoms, habits, activity level, ect.  This past week we watched a documentary (being married to a professor we watch a lot of documentaries.....) it is on Netflix and called "Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead" it is a great film for anyone to watch.  It follows Joe Cross, who has an autoimmune disease and is overweight from an unhealthy lifestyle and chronicles his 60 days of a juice fast, only juicing no food for 60 days.  It follows a few people he touches along the way and how all of them get healthier from juicing.

Ted researched these on consumer reports this is the best for the price range

Ted and I have known that we aren't getting enough fruits and vegetables for awhile....the recommended amount is almost impossible to digest it feels like!  So instead of juice fasting we are juice supplementing.  Every morning we have a vegetable juice (6 leaves of Kale, 4 stalks celery, 2 green apples, 1 cucumber, 1/2 lemon, a piece of ginger and an orange I added for taste).  Then at night we have a fruit smoothie with some protein powder to help keep up the antioxidants

Enough for juicing for both of us minus the orange I add now

Last night was our first experiment and this morning was our first day starting our new plan. It didn't taste nearly as bad as it looks or what I thought it would be like, but it defiantly had a different texture I am getting use to, it is really thin.  On top of juicing we are going a little further than our regular diet, we are eating a mostly whole foods diet (no processed foods) Ted was so sad to give up his cearel.

The drink.....I pour it over ice it seems to taste better cold

We will continue our schedule of eating healthy every meal of the week but 2.  Every Saturday lunch and dinner we get freebies, we can eat whatever we want!  It really helps us keep on track with the diet and during the week if we crave something we add it to the eat on Saturday list!  The dunkin' donuts people know me now and they know my order every Saturday afternoon and they know it is our day off and always ask how the diet is going :)

I went to Trader Joe's (love that place!) to load up on all the fruit and veggies we needed for this week and the checkout lady asked if I was juicing due to my massive amount of veggies, I said yes in fact we are just starting.  She told me what a difference it has made in her life and how much better her headaches have felt and that her skin has never been healthier!

So much fruit!  The veggies are in the fridge...

Well I will keep you up to date on if this works!  Joe Cross from the film is almost off all his meds for his autoimmune disease.....which sounds amazing and he has lost a lot of weight!  So here is to trying something new to feel better!

The way I see it how can adding more veggies and fruits hurt!?  Am I right!!??

Side note: If Ted and I are eating healthier foods so is Lola (I know I am crazy) I switched her to a Natural dog food!  When we do something in the cross household we do it all are not at all!  Ha ha!
